The Argentine Open in Palermo is now in its closing stages, and La Natividad La Dolfina are making a strong case to complete the Triple Crown. On Saturday 15 November, they beat Los Machitos El Refugio 18-6 on Field 1 of the Campo Argentino de Polo in front of a near-full house.
Another dominant win
It was their second match of the tournament and their ninth consecutive win of the season. La Natividad La Dolfina, who have won the Hurlingham Open and the Tortugas Open, lead Zone A, level with UAE Polo, and their next aim is to secure a place in the final.
- The score progression was 3-1, 5-2, 7-3, 10-4, 12-4, 13-5, 16-5 and 18-6.
- Camilo Castagnola scored seven goals, one from a corner.
- Adolfo Cambiaso scored five, one from a penalty, Poroto Cambiaso four and Bartolomé Castagnola two.
- For Los Machitos El Refugio, Diego Cavanagh scored three, Victorino Ruiz Jorba two and Alfredo Bigatti one.
It was the third and last weekend of free entry to the Abierto, and the stands were almost full. Poroto Cambiaso said the crowd had enjoyed the game, while acknowledging that the team must improve in some areas. An explosion on Friday at Carlos Spegazzini, near Cañuelas, had disturbed the horses’ rest and the working day, but no harm was done to the horses or the players.
Machitos in for 2026
In the day’s opening match, La Zeta Kazak beat Sol de Agosto 16-11. That result guaranteed Los Machitos El Refugio a place in the 2026 Triple Crown, which is a useful consolation after their heavy defeat.
The run-in
La Natividad La Dolfina will play Sol de Agosto before their final Zone A match, against UAE Polo, which will decide who takes a place in the final. Palermo’s decisive days are set for early December, with the final on Sunday 7 December.
Women’s Open this week
The Argentine Women’s Open also begins this week, with matches scheduled from 24 November to 6 December. We will have a full report as soon as the first results are in.
