Two of the summer’s best tournaments produced finals this weekend. In Sotogrande, Amanara won the Terralpa Silver Cup, and in Deauville, Talandracas won the Coupe d’Argent.
Sotogrande Silver Cup
At Ayala Polo Club, the second stage of the International Polo Tournament was concluded in all three categories.
- High handicap: Amanara 14, Dubai 11. Amanara overturned a three-goal deficit to win the Silver Cup for the second consecutive year. Facundo Pieres was MVP. Amanara were Facundo Pieres, Nicky Sen, Lorenzo Chavanne and Leon Donoso, while Dubai were Barto Castagnola, Gonzalo Ferrari, Pedro Chavanne and Tariq Albwardy.
- Medium handicap: P1 Cars El Bambú 12, Jolly Roger 11. Carlos María Ulloa was MVP.
- Low handicap: Estancia Lamar 11, Vamos Korea 10. Tomás Iriarte, Santos Iriarte, Rayyan Al Ajaji and Milo Mac Donough made up the winning side.
Three finals, three one-goal or three-goal margins, and a high handicap final that turned on a comeback. It is a lovely tournament, and the quality is always high. Dubai now go into the Gold Cup having lost a Silver Cup final, which will make them hungry.
Deauville
The Barrière Deauville Polo Cup began on 10 August. The first champions were Talandracas, who won the Coupe d’Argent from 10 to 16 August. Their opponents in the final were Love Bandits, in what was described as a very close match. Alfredo Capella was named MVP, and the best horse of the final was La Bala, ridden by Tito Ruiz Guiñazú. Talandracas were Augustin Emsens, Louis Jarrige, Julien Reynes and Guillermo Terrera.
In the Ladies Polo Cup, Doma Vantage beat The Collector in the final. The champions were Carol Muir, Naomi Marlough, Pearl Venot and Elena Venot. The ladies’ event ran from 11 to 14 August, and brings together some very good players in Normandy.
Looking forward
- Sotogrande Gold Cup: 17 to 29 August, at three handicap levels
- Deauville Coupe d’Or: 17 to 30 August
- Deauville Bronze Cup: 17 to 29 August
The Gold Cups are the big finales of the summer, and we will bring you the finals at the end of the month.
A quick word on form
For a team like Amanara, the Silver Cup double (they also won in 2025) shows how well their combination works. Lorenzo Chavanne, who has had a golden summer, is another to watch at the Gold Cup. The real test of all of them will be how they cope with the schedule of high-goal matches that is still to come.
