The HPA released two announcements on Saturday that will matter to anyone who follows British polo, one about the international calendar and one about how the sport is run behind the scenes.
England v USA in June
England will play the USA in a 16-goal international for the Golden Jubilee. The match is the headline event at The Beaufort International on Saturday 14 June. It is the second England home fixture to be confirmed for the summer, after the Coronation Cup against Brazil at Guards on 26 July, and it sits neatly in the HPA’s 150th anniversary programme.
The England team has yet to be named, and we will bring you the line-up as soon as the HPA announces it.
A partnership with Lineup Polo
The HPA has also teamed up with Lineup Polo as part of its digital transformation. Lineup is a Technical Partner, and it will build an automated system for collecting information from Victor Ludorum games. The aim, as the HPA explains it, is to reduce the administrative load on clubs, umpires and the HPA office, which should be popular with anyone who has spent a Sunday evening chasing a scoresheet.
- Clubs should spend less time on paperwork after matches.
- Umpires should have fewer forms to fill in.
- The HPA gets cleaner data to work with, which matters for handicaps and for policy.
It is the sort of unglamorous change that can make a real difference to the grassroots, which is where British polo is won or lost.
Whitney recap
Across the Atlantic, Matt Coppola’s third C.V. Whitney Cup title, won with La Dolfina/Tamera on 23 February, continues to attract comment. Adolfo Cambiaso’s side won that final 11-10 against Coca-Cola. The USPA Gold Cup in Wellington is the next stop on the Gauntlet.
We will keep you posted on both the Beaufort build up and the Wellington action.
